Sitting on the edge of a boat, we were closest to the bank and right in front of the priests performing the Aarti. Whether you choose Dashashwamedh Ghat, Assi Ghat or any other, you won’t miss out on mesmerizing experiences. The 45-minute Evening Ganga Aarti is a must-see spectacle. It is performed by seven priests surrounded by hundreds of devotees in all directions. We suggest arriving at least half an hour in advance and securing a spot close to where the priests perform the Aarti. The experience is truly magical.

According to legend, it was here that Lord Buddha gave his first sermon, called Dharma Chakra Pravartan, after achieving enlightenment. This ancient city boasts of several stupas, monasteries, and temples, making it one of the world’s most revered Buddhist pilgrimage sites. The most notable attraction in Sarnath is the Dhamekh Stupa, a colossal cylindrical tower that Emperor Ashoka is said to have built to commemorate Buddha’s first sermon. Additionally, Sarnath features many other significant Buddhist sites, such as the Chaukhandi Stupa, the Mulagandha Kuti Vihar, and the Sarnath Archaeological Museum. Visitors can also see the lion capital of Ashoka Pillar, which is showcased here and serves as the national emblem of India. Thandai: This milk-based drink flavoured with almonds and spices is often served during festivals like Holi and Shivratri and is a refreshing treat in the hot weather.
